Impact of COVID-19 on a cardiac catheterization lab in the post-COVID-19 era

Introduction: In May 2022, there was a worldwide shortage of contrast, including Iodine 270 mg/mL Visipaque/Iodixanol Injection. Due to the severe shortage, our catheterization lab had depleted its stores Visipaque and could only acquire 320 Following switch, subset patients began experiencing similar some life-threatening adverse reactions that not be attributed other causes.Methods: A retrospective review all from interventional procedures performed with new contrast in September 2022 October collected. Patient demographics, allergies, comorbidities, medications used (including sedation), reactions, type formulation were recorded analyzed.Results: Seven cases identified using Injection dilution done as per procedure. No change adopted either medication or Three experienced post-procedural nausea vomiting. One patient no psychological history brief but extreme agitation aggression. Five required overnight admission due postoperative shivering. Two these urgent warming measures, one temperature, requiring drastic cooling measures. addition, (patient 3) readmitted ICU high-grade fever chills. The common factor development shivering few hours after administration contrast. All recovered receiving treat symptoms hypertension.Conclusion: Our several reaction over course couple months immediately following used. Once supply original Iodixanol restored, ceased, none occurred months. Disruptions chain imposed by COVID-19 forced departure preferred methods adaptation maintain continuity care. Even worst global pandemic is over, health care providers must continue proactive adaptive long-term disruptions caused ripple effects COVID-19.
